Today is a day of firsts for me. First day of summer. First day of heavy duty cleaning. First day of thinking of myself as a runner. First day of writing camp.
During my first day of summer, I attempted to get a lot done. I had the goal of cleaning out my closet and the drawers in my bedroom and bathroom.
Bathroom drawers? Check.
I also wanted to do some deep cleaning. I scrubbed all areas of the master bath.
I didn’t get a run in today because of the heat, but I did complete a Wii Active workout with my eight-year-old son cheering me on.
I am now taking my time to write. I think writing is something I’ve always enjoyed doing, but I just don’t make the time for it. Even though I won’t be a writing teacher next year, I think it’s important that I am a writing model to and for my students. During the past two years, I’ve written a column in our local newspaper. Every five weeks I was forced to sit down and come up with 800 words. That came fairly easily. Everyday writing will be a new challenge.
I wish I had journaled more frequently as I was growing up. I have a few sporadic pages in diaries, but I would usually skip days and weeks at a time. This time will be different. This time I am a writer.
